MEC Environmental Consulting specializes in the identification, assessment, and remediation of environmental contamination or conditions which potentially could harm employees or nearby residents. Projects are usually quite varied, and often one of a kind. E.g., MEC Environmental Consulting was retained by a general contractor in the Detroit metropolitan area to provide technical expertise in remediating a property contaminated with chloroacetophenone (CN), a type of tear gas. Through interviews with public safety officials, staff identified the exact type of tear gas and dispersal agent used and was able to calculate the hypothetical mass of each. MEC Environmental Consulting developed a rigorous and innovative remediation plan based on the unique physico-chemical properties of CN, which can rapidly alternate between solid and gaseous states.

More typically, MEC Environmental Consulting performs Phase I Environmental Site Assessments of property to be bought or sold. These assessments are required in order for a buyer of property, found later to have been contaminated, to avoid liability for cleanup of the property under the federal Superfund law. MEC Environmental Consulting completes all Phase I Environmental Site Assessments in strict adherence to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) E 1527-00, Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments: Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Process.

MEC Environmental Consulting has also evaluated proposed equipment and new products introduced into the workplace in order to ensure employee safety.
